Custom Framing Tips & Tricks

Why Custom Framing?
Whether you frame a poster, picture or fine artwork, custom framing will reflect your personal taste, protect and present your piece in a professional way for years to come.

Considering the Surroundings
While you should certainly consider the room's decor, you shouldn't match the frame to the room at the expense of what looks good with the picture. Keep in mind that the room decor may change in the future.

Matting
The color of the mat is chosen to direct the eye of the viewer into the art. The width of the mat should be at least 2 inches, but in harmony with the dimensions of the art and the width of the frame moulding. The mat also provides space between the art and glass.

Mounting
The drymount process bonds artwork to a board to prevent bubbling or waving and is the most appropriate for posters and photographs. Pieces of any value generally should not be drymounted since this process is irreversible and can greatly affect any resale value.

Cleaning
Most commercial window cleaners are good for cleaning framing glass. Avoid all-purpose cleaners, disinfectants and anything that contains ammonia. You should always spray the cleaner on the cloth, then wipe the glass. If you spray directly on the glass, the liquid is likely to run down between the frame and glass, and may damage the artwork.
